A few years back I bought a TR2-4 thermostat on eBay. The seller's
description insisted that the part was "correct for the TR2-4 despite what
some people would claim." Foolishly, I bought it. Shortly thereafter, I
learned about sleeved vs non-sleeved thermostats. Naturally, this had no
sleeve. I contacted the seller about returning it. He became quite irate,
insisting that it was the correct thermostat just as the manufacturer
claimed. The meaning was obvious. . .he knew darned well that the thermostat
was incorrect, but he pressed the manufacturer's (incorrect) claim to clear
his own conscience.
