Live (or almost) from I-thought-these-things-were-easy-to-fixville, the brake
bleeding update!
First, thanks to everyone who has made suggestions.
I finally did get my clutch working. After trying the normal and vacuum
bleeding procedures, I built my own little pressure-bleeder for the clutch.
I did this with some clear plastic tubing, a cap from a bottle of brake
fluid, and a cap normally used for water faucets (did anyone know that these
things were the same size as clutch master cylinder caps?). Anyway , I
pressurized the fluid bottle, forcing fluid into the master cylinder, and
sure enough, that pesky air finally came out of the system. Voila, the
clutch works! However, I wanted to conserve some fluid, so I may have ceased
bleeding prematurely. The pedal has to be all the way to the floor before
the clutch disengages. So I'll go buy some more fluid and beed some more.
The process was working beautifully, though.
My brakes are still way too mushy after lots of bleeding attempts though (I
wouldn't feel safe driving it). So I would like to try pressure bleeding the
brakes. I have only one problem:
Does anyone know where I could get an inexpensive cap to use in my homemade
pressure bleeder for my master cylinder? Moss wants $10+shipping for a new
cap, and I cannot find anything even close in a hardware store or the
standard auto parts stores. I was thinking I might could find something
compatible on an everyday home-product container, but I have not gone to the
grocery store to look yet. Anyone ever done this?
I'll let everyone know if I find something before someone gets an answer to
me.
