On Jan 16 Bob Mclaughlin writes about a speedo problem:
Bob, I have a copy of a tech article from an old Healey
Highlights magazine that describes your problem perfectly.
The problem is in the speedo head itself. Over time, as the
internals of the speedo wear, the spinning magnet inside the
head, comes in contact with the drum that drives the speedo
needle. This causes the erratic indications. The fix requires
opening up the speedo and shimming between the worm gear and
the steel bracket with a loop or two of loosely
wrapped bare wire (24guage). Speedo calibration can be
accomplished by increasing or decreasing the number of turns of
wire. According to the author this technique works well.
