Hi There...
I recently finished a total rebuild of a 74 TR6 motor. As far a the head is
concerned, I would of course replace the guides (bronze) and install stainless
exhaust valves. If you want the motor to breath better a little porting will
help. Remove all casting imperfections from the intake and exhaust ports.
Smooth out any sharp bends in the ports. As far as the combustion chamber,
eliminate any sharp edges. These edges will heat up and cause you engine to
ping. Altering the combustion chamber will lower the compression ratio.
Perhaps you should consider milling the head to boost the CR.
The crank and bearings... At a minimum the crank should be polished. My
motor had less than 100K on it and the crank needed to be cut .010. I never
like to beef up the top end without doing work on the bottom. Could just be
something wrong with my thinking.
How about pistons and rings? Really sounds like the engine should come out.
As far as the stuck on head... I had the same problem. I just worked it with
a rawhide mallet and pryu bars. Try to remove the head studs using the double
nut technique. The head should come off much easier. Good luck!
