Funny you should mention that. During lunch today, I was playing with
our new estimating software. I looked up the price of a new starter,
dealer retail price, for the comparable Mazda; $181.52. I also noticed
that, while we only have "foreign" repair info, we had estimating guides
for all common cars. So I picked as a test a '91 Probe with a 2.2L four.
Then I called my local Ford dealer.
Dealer> Parts, Don.
Me> Hi Don, gimme a price on a 91 Probe two two starter.
Dealer> No prob, hang on.
(long time listening to people walking past phone laying on counter)
Dealer> Uh, hello? Uh..... hey, hey, hey.... are you sitting down?
Me> Let me guess....
Dealer> I don't think you can!
Me> One thousand forty two dollars.
Dealer> and seventy cents.
Me> I'll let you know.
Dealer> Yea, right. Have a good'un.
