My 12V battery just bearly fit into the battery compartment too. I did not use
one of the plastc boxes. I couldn't get the tie down to fit ether. I decided
not to bother with it. There is no way its going anywhere. If your worried
about it bouncing up and hitting the metal lid (maybe if you hit a pothole named
grand canyon) you can just put a small wood block on top of the battery. It
wouldn't need to be tied down ether since it would have no place to go. I
suppose that if you found yourself upside down, it would keep the battery
terminals from shorting out on the lid and allow you to still use your
headlights to see where you are sliding.
