Used to be that the factory settings were pretty good. Then smog
control started and they optimized for emissions instead of a good run.
I set my timming by sound. Advance the timming as far as you can
without getting ping, then retard about 1-2 degrees. If you Dist has
the fine adjust wheel it is easy to play with over about a 5 degree
range. Make sure the wheel is centered when you set the timming then
you can advance or retard.
