I have a 1972 Spitfire MkIV and plan on restoring it in the very near
future (ha ha, my wife says). I don't want a show car, just a lbc to
tool around in. Recently, I came across an ad for a '72 Spitfire and
called the guy selling it. He did not know Spitfires very well and
said he thought it was a '72 but said it had "1500" across it. From
what little I know, I thought the 1500 came out in '73. I plan to have
a look at the car this week (I am considering using it or my old car
for parts) and I have a few questions.

  - Did the 1500 first come out in 1973?
  - How different are the two model years?
  - Are body panels, bonnets, trunk lids, etc. interchangeable?
  - How interchangeable are the the head, manifolds, transmission,
     and differential?
  - Any advice on problem areas to look for on the '73 1500?

Thanks for the help.
