Peter: re MGB oil consumption. I also have a 74 MGB, which I have owned
since new. It has 65,000 miles on it, and the engine has never been
apart. It used a quart (Canadian Imperial measure) every 700 to 1000 miles for
the first 5,000. Since then it has used practically no oil at all, although
last week I did put in a half litre (Canada switched to metric system since I
bought it!). In fact I have put much more oil in the carb dampers than in
top ups for the crankcase. That said, each engine is individual, but if
you are using more than a quart or litre per thousand, something might be
worn.
