I have been going over the factory specs on my 78 Spitfire 1500. There are
compression ratio specs of 7.5:1 for the US version, and 9:1 for the Brits
version. I can find no differences in any of the measurements, the only
thing I can figure is that the US piston is cupped and the Brit. piston
is flat, or the US is flat and the Brit is domed. Does anyone know what
the difference is? Can I just buy the British pistons and replace my US
pistons to increase the compression ratio, or are other mods required?
Second, which MG model uses the same 1500 drive train? How far back
are they the same, just the engine, all the way to the differential?
I want to rebuild the 1500 engine and convert to fuel injection. I
have been considering designing my own injection system and computer,
But I would like to buy an injection system or just the computer first
to get some experience with fuel injection. (Then I'll take on the big
job of designing my own computer and the rest of the system) Does
anyone have any experience with off the shelf injection conversions,
or just injection computers. My experience with manufacutres of such is
nil, I have only obtained info from a couple of books - no real on
the road (or track) evals.
