Well, this SOL was SOL once again. The great social redeeming value of
an LBC is that it is easy to push-start by yourself!
It appears that the starter may be gone. Lousy Lucas electrics, I only
replaced that starter fifteen years ago, and it's already giving me
trouble!
Symptoms are: 1) Starter turns slowly but steadily.
2) Cables to starter get warm, then hot.
3) Insisting results in wisps of smoke coming from the
back of the starter housing.
4) Battery is old, cells range from fair to fair/recharge.
So, is it the battery? (Unlikely)
is there a burned out winding? (Hope not)
is it the brushes? (Easiest to fix)
Any opinions? Donations?
Wouldn't you know that the Prince of Darkness would strike two days
before I'm to leave for a month's vacation in Europe!
