Been there, had that problem. A $35.00 starter rebuild at the local
starter/alternator place took care of it. Starter needed new bushings
(after 15 years who would be surprised?) and brushes. Not a
problem since.
And the amazing part was that in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, down 'to
Bill and Earl's Starter and Alternator, not only did they have
the parts in stock, I walked in dropped the starter on the counter, and
Earl (or was it Bill?) said from 10 feet away "Oh, A Lucas Model (mumble).
Sure, I can do that. Tomorrow afternoon be OK?"
