Maybe it's the citric acid? Anyway, several years ago there was a guest on
the Letterman show, of all places, who had invented a graffiti-removal spray
using the same sort of compound. Letterman had a field day poking fun at this
guy, who was not Mister Personality, but they spray-painted a door and tried
squirting the cleaner on it, and, with a bit of scrubbing, it did get the
spray paint off. Presumably it would have a slightly easier time removing
gunk that is not designed to stick to the surface.
