While upset over my MGB's cylinder head, I got to looking at the
MGB V-8 propaganda. I don't want to do a conversion on my '76
B, I think I'm one with that engine. But I am considering finding
another B to do this to. (Everybody needs three of 'em!)
Anyone have a V-8? From what I've read you can either use the stock B
gearbox, or use a TR-7's 5-speed. It seems the latter involves a lot
of modification to the tunnel, etc., while staying with the B box is
fairly straight forward. My fiancee and I forsee a '77 B, brilliant
red, with black interior and red leather seats, earlier dash with
*real* gauges, serious suspension, Pirelli's to stick it in place...
Oh well, I like the sound of using the stock gearbox. If you keep it,
and have a '77 or later car, no mods are required. I really don't like
to chop things on cars. The only thing I've done to my street B that
can't be returned to original is drill holes for the roll bar.
Is the stock gearbox strong enough? The outfit I've got information
from says the 5 speed is probably the best way to go...
What about longevity and cost of rebuild for the V-8? (Rover 215)
The car would be strictly for playing with and having an MG that is
too fast, pointlessly burns evil petrolium products, and makes the
neighbors angry.
