I would much rather a mechanic admit to when he is over his head and refuse
to do a job he does not feel he can do competently.  When I pay for a job,
I want it done right by someone who knows how to do it correctly.

I think the repairman did the right thing.

Once had to replace a Land Rover ignition switch because a professional
mechanic broke it trying to turn the starter motor over (Land Rovers have
separate switch for the starter).
