Hi all,
This past week-end I *finally* made time for a little work on the '65
Spitfire. One of the things I have to undo from the previous owner is get
the clutch back in operation. At the moment the clutch pedal has no travel
at all -- it is hard as a rock. The previous owner claimed to have tried
two different clutches in the car, thinking that since the first one didn't
work the parts store must have sold him the wrong one. Clutch number two
made no difference. Then both slave cylinders were replaced, same results.
At that point, the fellow stopped working on the car. This was around 77-78
and it has sat ever since. Anyway, to keep this short, I tried bleeding
both ends of the clutch slave system and got nowhere. I then pulled the
slave cylinders and worked them manually. They seem to be functional.
Anyone have any suggestions? Is it possible this fellow got the clutch in
backwards or do I have another -yet unfound- gremlin?
When it comes time to check this out, is it easier to pull engine and all
or is it workable to just pull the tranny?
