Anybody have any hints to describing good vs bad wire wheels?
I've seen articles about "tap the spokes to see if all sound
the same" (mine pass this test) and "look for pointed splines"
(mine pass this test, I think). I've got a rear wheel which
seems to have rotational slop in it. In my mind it ought to
say bad splines but both wheel and adapter seem to look OK to my
uneducated eye. Do the two pieces typically wear out together, or
is one harder so it tends to eat the other. (perhaps I can rotate
the marginal wheel to the spare???)

I lucked into a "new" redline tire locally. (stored awhile, but
never mounted, still with label attached, and priced right)
This will replace the "wore out, steel threads shining" spare
I have, and let one of the "still fair, but heavy wear" rears
rotate into the spare. The two fronts are in good shape. Anybody
have a lead for ONE redline without paying the $200 (OUCH!) that
dealers want? (On the other hand, anybody need my old wore out
tire? I can't think of a reason I should keep it around.)

I may actually try mounting the new tire myself. I've never tried
this, but I don't really have a tire store I can trust it with. Seems
that mounting should be a do-it-yourself task, given some sort of
tools to approximate tire irons (maybe a traditional US type lug
wrench, or the BIG screwdriver which usually serves as pry bar, or ??)

BTW, thanks for the replies to my car cover questions. General
answer was Technalon was best for outside use. I have one on order
now.
