re: question of pulling pistons with engine in the car.
even if it is possible it may not be a great idea. even if you can
successfully hone the cylinders in the car prior to replacing the pistons, you
may find (if the engine has some miles on it) that one or more of the cylinders
is no longer round. this is quite common. if that is the case, new rings
will not seal well on that (those) cylinder. definitely check for oval
cylinders (borrow a guage) before you decide not to pull the block.
