| .............. What really
| caught my eye however was 48 Triumph 1800, restorable, less engine. As I
| recall, the illustrious DickN has one of these little beasties. Should my
| wife start sweating now over this ad? What might be a reasonable price for
| this thing? What does one look for? Will the Triumph TR2-4 engine fit/be a
| suitable replacement for the missing engine? As I recall, the TR2-4 is not
| just a bored out 1800, but my MG/Jag background is showing...

Perhaps by "jag background showing" you mean that you have just remembered that
until 1949 Jag bought their engines from Standard(Triumph) and that the jag
1.5 liter engine was in fact a triumph 1800 engine. Many of the earlier
Triumph 1800 roadsters and saloons actually had "SS" cast into various of
the engine parts. This is a different engine then the TR2-3-4, but if I were
looking for an engine swap the wet-slieved tr3 is ideal.

These are very nice cars. Hand finished aluminium bodys on tube frames. Lots
of wood IN the coachwork. How good or bad the wood is, and how good you are
at that sort of work are major considerations in how much a "restorable" car
is worth to you. There is a fairly active club in England who are a good
source of parts and information.

There are a fair number of these cars that have had V8 engine swaps. Most
are much too nose heavy. But I was seriously considering putting an Aluminium
Rover-Buick-Triumph in one of my old parts cars. That would have been nice.

| Subject: Electric Fuel Pumps

| Anyway, I'm going to be replacing the mechanical fuel pump in my snake
| with an electric pump. I sent a request to the classic-mustangs lists
| for pump recommendations and got zippo response. So, thought I'd try
| this list since most of you actually have electric fuel pumps in your
| own cars.

| .................Other suggestions, comments anyone?
| Thanks,
| Roland

Fuel pumps have two characteristic: 1 pressure, 2 volumn. Working with
Joe Huffacker to make one of my cars run right, I learned that the nice
normal electric fuel pump I was running was fine for moderatly fast driving
but would not maintain the pressure and volumn needed at max accelleration
in top gear. Most racing fuel pumps recirculate and have separate pressure
setting. They are not as quiet but so what. I'm running Holleys now and
they have not been a problem.

I think that the SOL list may not be a lot of help because any pump run on
most of our cars would only work on the Cobra for low stress putting around
town. What do other AC owners run?

regards/DickN
