I had one of the "good" ones, i.e. with the cast iron block.

What? Do you mean to tell me that you did not have the famous "CoBra" engine?
No wonder you felt the need to make up for this deprivation in later life by
buying an AC Cobra. A poor substitute, of course, but one does what one can.
