        The back of the top is secured by a plate that pinches the top to the
        rear deck.  

I don't understand. I have such a plate -- it's attached to the rear
deck by five bolts, and the rear of the top snaps to it. When you say
'pinches', do you mean that the top goes *under* it? That doesn't make sense to 
me.

What I *could* believe is that the top is bolted to the plate with
threaded extension lift-the-dot studs, and that the plate is provides
enough clearance for similar studs *under* the plate (for when the top
is completely removed). Or, alternatively, that snap bases are used
here instead of lift-the-dot studs (less height to clear). 

I have all the other snaps along the side of the car and across the dash...
