Subject: Primer?

<edited>

In the past I've always used lacquer primer, and mostly shot lacquer.
However, when I did my Morgan I use acrylic enamel for the top coat.

I'm just wondering what everyone is using these days? I have some lacquer
primer and some ginger in the acrylic enamel.

Talking with Terry, he is really talking the Urothaine (sp) primers and
single stage urothaine top paints.

John,

I know just a little about paint. An AE is, typically, easier for the
novice
painter to apply in less than ideal conditions. It tends to resist runs
and dries faster than lacquer. These qualities are appealing when painting
in the garage or outside because it gives those damn bugs less of a chance
to become permanent additions to the paint job.

A lacquer is easier to run and slower to dry but, according to some, more
durable and gives you a deeper shine. It also requires more elbow grease
because you have to rub it out after it dries. AEs do not require rubbing.

Finally, the Urethane. I don't have any experience with this stuff but
if its what I call 2-Pak, you should be careful. The stuff is extremely
toxic and the manufacturer recommends using a paint suit with a separate
air supply. A simple mast is not enough, even a good one.

Since you're asking about primer, my advise is to use a primer of the same
kind as you use for the top coat.

There you go, my advise. Your mileage and opinions may vary.

Steve
