John, I've been using a paint on my motorcycle that is really fantastic, and
I've been meaning to share my experiences with the Bricklin group. Sorry, I
can't relate my experience directly to the Brick just yet, but here's where
I'm at so far.

The paint is called "Endura" - you can find more info here:

  http://www.netsv.com/endura/

I painted all of the ABS parts on my bike with this paint, and many aluminum
and steel parts too. It's available in a very high-gloss, wet-look finish.
What you see when you first lay it on is what you get once it's finished
drying - it's pretty remarkable. I used 2 coats of metallic on my bike, and
the finish is so deep, it's comparable to 10-15 coats of laquer. It goes on
pretty thick and is very easy to apply.

It's a 2-part paint that works well with fiberglass, epoxy, steel, aluminum,
and ABS. You do want to use a decent respirator, but it's not very nasty to
work with. I got lots on my skin, and just washed it off with paint thinner
and didn't have any bad reaction...

The reason I was attracted to it for the Bricklin is that it creates a very
tough, flexible finish. I let a sample dry in a paper cup - I filled it to
a bit over 1/4" depth and let it dry. What I got was a very tough, very
flexible "puck". you can take this puck and pull on it to stretch it, bend
it, fold it, etc, and it didn't crack. It's not impervious, my little
sister did split it by folding it right over double and squeezing it between
her two palms...

That flexibility appealed to me, because the approach I'm trying with
repairing my cracked body panels is to leave the acryllic in place - grind
out and fill the cracks with epoxy, then apply an epoxy resin over the whole
body. The epoxy resin and this Endura paint are both very strong and
flexible, so I'm counting on them to keep the cracks from reappearing, and
not cracking themselves.

Hope that this is worth something to some of my fellow listers. If you have
specific Q's, then go ahead and ask...

Good luck,
--
