Ok, time for stupid questions:
What is the benefit of yanking the manifolds and putting headers on?
Thanks,
Seth

Not stupid actually. Well, let's see,
1) If you've seen the cast manifolds internally, they are quite small,
perhaps just good enough for a small output 289 (actually, they are very
similar), but beyond that . . .there's a good deal of restriction.
2) Weight (every pound counts on a vehicle that weighs 3800 lbs give or
take. Especially in the front, since the Brick is already ass-lite. The
OEM manifolds are analogous to an over-the-hill cheeseburger-eating
ex-heavyweight contender, and headers are pure phantom.
3) Cast iron is great for ovens! But we all know the problems B's have with
heat. Not just engine temp, but engine compartment temp. The acrylic hood
panels twist, turn, buckle, and finally, crack like Bonomo Turkish Taffy
(warning: the preceding was an obscure reference). Steel headers can be
coated or wrapped, both treatments having their pro's and con's.

To be fair, there are some disadvantages to going with headers:
1) LEAKS
2) EXPENSE
3) MORE LEAKS
4) Not keeping in OEM condition.
5) MORE EXPENSE

stephan (just about ready to go with a $$$$$$$$ custom exhaust and headers
and retire my wallet) #2821
