Paul,
I am not sure of the exact color or number of teeth for your speedo gear
but...
If the speedometer is really reading 90mph when you are actually going 60mph
then you can compute the gear needed. Take out the old one and count the teeth
and then multiply that by 3/2. This should get you the number of teeth that
your new speedo gear needs to have.
eg : (trans final rpm) / (number of teeth on current gear) = 90
(trans final rpm) / (number of teeth on needed gear) = 60
[well... not actually equal to 90 and 60 but it will be a direct correlation
and thus can be used in the calculation]
Since the "trans rpm" will be the same and the number of teeth on the old
speedo gear is (or can be) known solving for "number needed" yields 3/2 *
(number of teeth on current gear). ...So if your gear had 14 teeth then you
would need a gear with 21 teeth to reduce the speedo by 1/3 (from 90 to 60)
I am not sure if you will have trouble finding one or not.
   Good Luck

                                                Jamie

I have changed the stock rearend gears in my 75 (#1403) to 373's

Problem: After changing gears, I am now doing 90MPH when I am actually
doing 60MPH. I am told that the gear at the end of the speedometer that
goes into the transmission needs to be changed. I am told they are
"coded" by color. If so, any idea which one I should use with the 373
gears?? Needless to say, the odometer is racking up the miles as well.

Thanks......Paul #1403, #268
