FWIW, this thread has been hacked to death on the Impala digest.  The gist
of the discussion is that Chevy recommended it for the Corvette because the
'Vette didn't get the radiator mounted oil cooler that the Impala did, so
they put in an oil that could stand higher temperatures for the Corvette.  I
doubt that they did it for the gas mileage and my Honda shows that you can
get over 225K miles out of a hard working engine if you change the oil on a
regular basis (still looking for the upper limit on that one).  That said,
there are a lot of Impala owners that will put nothing but Mobil 1 in their
engines because the 'Vette came w/ Mobile 1.
