Dear Debbie,

I was watching your runs on course Sunday, and I thought it looked like you
were driving very well. You were on the gas really early and you were
carrying a lot of speed through the turns. No doubt you can take this
autocross thing really far. You're just a couple of quick fine tunings away.

You can solve the understeer problem by following the advise you just
outlined. Try slowing down a little bit sooner, taking a wider entry (so you
don't have to turn so much and hopefully maintain a little more speed), and
as you gently accelerate, unwind the wheel.

Downshifting is what you do when you are absolutely desperate and you've
exhausted all other possibilities.

Something else you might try is turning the wheel in slow motion. You'll
feel like you're driving slower, but you're actually just conserving your
own energy while you let the car do the work. Your times will drop almost
immediately. Just look at Eric Cheung. I just tell him a couple of simple
things, and I just know he's going to kick my butt this weekend, and I'm
just dreading it.

Katie K.

Okay, back to work.
