"This seems like a great solution to a problem we don't have.
Getting new attendees is NOT a problem for us. Retaining a reasonable
percentage is something of a problem, but we seem to be doing a decent job
over the past few years - we couldn't really handle many more "core"
participants WITHOUT losing the ability to troll for a suitable percentage
of replacements. There's a balance there."

I concur.
Our turnover is phenomenal. Always has been. Pat has collected about 2,485
names on her results data base in just three years. The good news is they
don't all come at once.
Several years ago before we even started SCCA, one correspondent
noted only 5-8 people actually made every event of the NCSCC's 20-event
season. And there was a consistent 200+ people at the Pleasanton
Fairgrounds. Autocrossing is a casual sport.
I suspect if Jerry takes a look at the 1999 points he will find a
similar participation pattern. The game is a hobby for we amateurs and
that's why we have it be best 3 out of 4 for the championship because many
people will attend a family gathering and just cannot make every event.
