It's Ironic you use the phrase '843 different SOLO2 classes' in the same
breath with 'How entertaining' DM (all 17 drivers) was to watch.
The entertainment value of a given group of cars has nothing to do with
how many of them there are. If there were 100 cars in D-mod would the
spectators
be watching, with interest, the ones in 95th through 100th place? No. The
attraction is with the epic back and forth battles among the top 6 or 8 cars
and the fact that they are real fast doesn't hurt. People usually like to
watch fast cars rather than slow ones. CP is another "entertainment" class
which just happens to have a large number of entries and that larger number
doesn't make it any more fun to watch than D or E mod.
While I'll give you that DM may be a great class to watch, it's attitudes
like 843 classes that keep the this program from expanding/contracting
classes to meet the demographics of the competitors.
I don't have an "attitude" about the number of classes, I'm just stating
that
there are a lot of them.
If the number of classes is an issue to you, perhaps we should combine DM
and EM for next year, and only have 841 classes.
It's not an issue; see above. If you can find a way to combine D and E and
be equitable in equalizing the potential between the 1100lb cars and the
(sometimes) 2000+ pounders, go for it. There are only 2 classes for
production-
based cars in MOD, light ones and heavy ones; doesn't seem like a lot.
Rick Cone
Defender of the notion that we really don't have too many classes. Just too
many undersubscribed ones.
That MIGHT be construed as saying there are too many! Seems like it's
reasonable to just accept that some classes are going to be relatively
small for a variety of reasons.
I still like GRM and don't fault them for not getting everything...
Merry Christmas....:-) :-) :-)
