Ron:
It is with the deepest regret that I must concur with the authorities at
the airport and ask you not to attempt to dig a 28 foot trench in the
airport parking lot. Given the shallow depth to surficial aquifer in the
area, it is entirely likely that such a trench would intercept the ground
water table. Subsequently, any high speed runs in your special vehicle
would cause the rest of the event to be postphoned due to the rainfall your
run would create as the sprocket sprayed water hundreds -if not thousands-
of feet into the air.
We also have concerns that some of the smaller cars (MG's come to mind)
might fall into the trench and drown.
However, this does not totally preclude your running at Allies/Axis in your
Bombardier Special. If you could see fit to equip the beast with 60 foot
diameter tires, thus giving you 30 feet of ground clearance, then the
trench would not be required...

Gentle Readers ;
Some of you might remember a missive forwarded a time back to another
SCCA organ of some merit. The Article was published in Wiregrass Regions
"Shifts and Giggles" during the 1980s. I recounted the effort of diligent
and
several serious SCCA'ers to set a new "Land Speed Record" with only 440
Cc's of Gasoline powered engine in SCCA a Legal Powered Formula Car. We
intended to run the Salt Flats with this vehicle in the excess perhaps
of the speed of Sound. . .SCCA, the EPA Folks, Nat'l Park People and
others refused us the permission to dig a trench some 28 feet in depth
across the Bonniville Salt Flats to accommodate a sprocket of sufficient
diameter to achieve the required speed... This proved to be serious
delay to the effort to cause the effort to be canceled, especially
after a rare rainfall across the area. Well, since then we can now run 500
Cc's and the stakes are higher, Allies VS. Axis event in Tallahassee, Fla.
has now notified us in the Wiregrass Region that such a legal SCCA
Snowmobile powered Machine will not be allowed to provide the 28 ft.
trench in a public parking lot at the Municipal Airport at the city of
Tallahassee, Fla.,,,.. Canadians, Arise! Bombardier, Park Your Planes.
It is important that Allies vs. Axis events get a fair shake. Is this
Honda?
