That was what I was beginning to think as well. The market in the area is
saturated with SCCA based events with Milwaukee Region and WAI, plus TSSCC
and Chicago Regions.
Location is certainly a problem. As you mentioned, our gates are narrow and
there can actually be a number of shifts between first and second. I hope
to change all this with better educated course designers and the search for
a better location. The thing is, Madison has no large parking lots.
I'm in the same boat you are, Jeff, on 151 Speedway; and I'm the autocross
chair. I've come close to the wall and the big concrete-filled tractor
tires on several occasions. The track is slick due to the amount of rubber
ground into the surface. They also have bubble races on occasion (they
cover the surface with soap bubbles, then race). All this leads to extra
risk, but there's just no place to go. Our local PCA and even the police
forces train at 151.
C-Stock would have had a Taurus SHO in it. I don't know much about RX7's
but my Integra GSR also runs in C class, so it's true that some of the
classing can be a bit out of whack. Then again, SCCA classes aren't perfect
either.
I think what it boils down to is a lack of advertising, including good will
with other clubs. In the past, we've never promoted other clubs, but I was
happy to hear Steve mention MSCC at the driver's school. I think building a
relationship between clubs helps all of them grow. We also build our
schedule around Milwaukee Region and WAI events, as well as MC road race
events.
Thanks for the feedback!
