While surfing The Tire Rack Web site, trying to get winter tires for my tow
vehicle, [yes, in PA you need them, even for occassional use] came across
this:
"BF Goodrich All-Terrain T/A KO Maximum Value Policy
BFG has established a tire industry first Maximum Value Policy distribution
strategy for its new All Terrain KO Light Truck Tires.
Starting with shipments of the All-Terrain KO on 5/1/99, the MVP will
protect the high-equity position of the All-Terrain KO in the market by
establishing a suggested minimum retail price and allowing distribution of
the product only to authorized dealers who respect this policy. To comply
with the MVP and maintain product access, dealers must not advertise of
sell below the suggestes minimum retail prices. BFG will immediately and
indefinitely discontinue selling All-Terrain T/A KO to dealers that violate
the MVP guidelines.
Since the BFG MVP program will establish suggested retail prices and does
not allwo an opportunity for the Tire Rack to provide equivalent delivered
and/or installed prices to our customers, we have chosen not to offer the
All-Terrain T/A KO.
The MVP for the All Terrain T/A KO does not apply to any other BFG tires
and we will continue to offer BFG's other light truck and performance tires".
Sounds like Michelin is trying to extend it's high price policy always
existant on Michelin's to BFG as well, in what a lay person might consider
Restraint of Trade.
Just another way BFG is pulling away from our needs, with the G-Force and
phase out of the R1.
As co-driver of Steve Hoelscher's X 1/9 for the past 5 years at Nationals,
and having an old [read hard] set of 215/50-13 R1's on my '86 X 1/9, looks
like it'll be Hoosiers next year.
