Yes -- I had a 1.5-liter '79 Rabbit at one time.  And that engine *really*
overhung the front axle.  Not to mention it was prone to electrical problems
(maybe from toasting the wiring harness too long?). It eventually caught
fire and burned all the way to the rear wheels because something (never
could figure out what) above the exhaust manifold broke.
