FWIW, reporters do work many more hours than just the 40.
I can certainly understand the desire to have local auto results
mentioned, but don't think it is because the reporter is just
sitting around eating Bon-Bons all day. Just to make their
days a little more interesting they have to do what the News
Director or Executive Producer says. So if the ND/EP says kill the
auto stuff we're running heavy (long), the story is shortened or
not aired. Like most of us, just doing what the boss wants.
Just to put a report's job a little in perspective, about a month
ago in the mid west a reporter had just wrapped up a live shot
and was help her photog put the stuff back in their
van. A car got too close to them, and hit and killed her. She was
in her twenties. Dues paid.

I'm not trying to flame (well sort of), but realize there are other
parameters involved with a news broadcast.
