But LA isn't indicative of the majority of the rest of the US. NYC,
SanFran, Atlanta - maybe, but in those places reformulated gasoline
could provide an easy answer. I agree with you about speeding tickets,
but I also agree that emissions testing is at least 75% revenue
motivated. If the government weren't sucking money from our pockets in
this and other ways, we as a society could afford to do the routine
maintenance that would make emissions testing unnecessary. Simple
trickle down economics. But instead, we're taxed at every corner and
its nothing but a downward spiral.
Don't get me wrong on this. If it were up to me, that 1976 Cadillac
land yacht blowing blue smoke in my face would get a citation, say from
a routine traffic stop. But to make me take time off from work and take
my car someplace so I could plunk down my money for some joker to stick
a sensor up my tailpipe for a few minutes and tell me, "yep, you're OK",
and it COST me to do that - unacceptable.
