Jamie... Didn't Richmond, VA get the title? I can testify for DC that I never
had a problem there in the two years I worked there & lived in Fairfax. I went
into the city on the weekends....there's so much going on to take advantage
of... I used to take the Metro in from Vienna and walk around all day. The
parks are beautiful and although there is a homeless population in several of
them, I never experienced any uncomfortable situations. I would go by myself
whenever I felt like treating myself to doing what I wanted when I wanted...did
the Mem day, 4th July Capitol Lawn concerts, visited the National Arboretum
which was in a tough neighborhood. I took evening courses at G.W. and walked 6
blocks at 10:00pm in the dark to the Metro..... Being the US Capital it's
pretty well patrolled. You never knew who you were going to 'run into' there.
I saw Janet Reno and her Secret Service guy at an art museum one afternoon and
saw the Bill Clinton entourage out jogging one Saturday morning (looked more
like a televised marathon from a distance there was such a crowd!) Cherry
blossom festival in spring is beautiful.... I could go on but you'd all be
bored....
