The 1.6 Miata would get my nod for being easier to drive at its limits.
Though, IMO, I don't think it has a chance of keeping up with the MR2 on
most courses.
Miatas have a shortwheel base and rotate quickly. They are indeed very
well balanced cars but are quite capable of giving rear-weight biased
cars a spin for their money ;^) Or maybe it's just me.

24 hour autox? Do tell.
I've often thought it'd be fun to have a nighttime autox. Ideally I'd be
able to convince a herd of the rare breed of reflective cones to settle on
our site for a night. Unless someone has identified a breed of
glow-in-the-dark cones (conus luminus?)

Yep. Many was the time when I would lament the "torque challenged" nature
of my 1.6 Miata. This was usually after I'd over-cooked an element and
slid sideways losing all of my momentum, thinking it best to practice
"speed maintenance" and carry as much speed as possible all the time.
Fortunatley Miatae are short and easily fit sideways through gates,
