Actually, many of those miles were at 90 mph. The E-250 w/16' Wells Cargo
enclosed was a very stable combo.

I started when I was 16 with a Scout 4wd and a 22' trailer with a 14'
(folded down) 6 bucket ferris wheel (yes, you read that right). VERY, VERY
unstable at ANY speed. I'm surprised that any of us survived that combo. The
worst was the very same Scout 4wd towing a WWII spotlight/generator combo.
One guy actually did swap ends with it and that was he last time anyone
towed ANYTHING with the Scout!

Agreed, if you are flat towing or a light dolly. Open or enlosed trailers
can be hard to deal with with a minivan or light (1/2 ton) pickup if it's
not a well built, quality trailer. I've pulled several open trailers (all
16' to 18")made by different companies or home built with the same vehicle
(Chevy 3/4 ton 4wd long bed w/350) and the difference between them was
dramatic. As expected, the home built towed the worst. It felt like it was
dragging, pulling to the left and bouncing up and down. The three
commercially available trailers all felt different, but the difference was
more subtle. All towed straight, but some felt easier (feeling of less drag)
or that it bounced less (when unloaded).
I also tried towing the better 18' behind a fairly early Dodge Caravan V6.
Empty, it towed fine. With a '67 MGB roadster (1850 lbs) aboard it was
fairly squirley. We tried moving the MGB back and forth to adjust the tongue
weight, but the best we could get was still squirley.
