One of the previous messages stated this is a rule
change will affect all Modified classes. Can we please
keep this an issue limited to the GCR based classes
 BM, CM and FM.

Other classes such as AM, DM and EM have no GCR and
should need no reverse gear. I understand the whole
issue of maintaining purity in certain classes, but
remember there are other Solo only modified classes
affected by such a broad rule. The simplicity of the
rules of our classes is also important to us. The
A/Modified rules fit into one sentence. Don't change
it to two. Of course any car with a CVT, like a F500
or snow-mobile powered AM will never have a reverse
 gear.

Since I've opened my mouth now I'll give you my two
cents worth as an impartial judge. If people are
tearing up $5K worth of tranny parts I think I would
allow them to take out reverse gear. Yes, that would
constitute an advantage over a reversed equipped car,
but I don't think timing to three decimal places on a
45 second course will see a difference. Still to
maintain the level playing field how about a three
pound weight penalty for "non- equipped " cars?

 Let's keep it simple.

PS: I like reverse, it's very useful to remove those
pesky stuck cones from the front suspension when there
 are no course workers around.

WHAT????

This is getting really blown out of proportion now. A three pound penalty
for a 10oz gear part?

Anyway, the whole point of this is to let someone take a part out the tranny
that will prevent him/her from having to give up the sport (or food) to
repair something that could have easily have been avoided.

If the rule is not adopted, those who are in this position will just continue
to break the rule that requires a reverse gear. Given the size (small),
difficulty (none) and cost of this change (nil), the benefits of the change
far outweigh the negatives.

For the record, both the cars I drive in Solo have a functional reverse and
will continue to contain the reverse idler. See "Vicki Flier Rule" ref.
earlier.
