Ian, Jan and sunbeamers,

If I had a short  - a fuse would blow (as Jan suggested) and it would also 
show as a discharge on the ammeter, wouldn't it? (The gauge doesn't even 
flicker when the problem occurs.) The generator was brand new about a month 
or so ago and is showing good amps.  Any more ideas?
