Had this problem on a Series II 'way back when it was practically new. The
starting handle would fix the problem with a smart whack on the starter.
This continued for sometime until I had the starter rebuilt (read new
brushes) and the problem went away. Never knew what the problem was. BTW,
I watched my Uncle take the starter out for the rebuild. Did NOT remove the
header! All he used were some very long socket extensions and very colorful
language.
