Here's a .jpg file I made a while back to produce one of these - mine has
all the text worn off, too. I have been looking for the right stuff to use
to make a transfer and it sounds like you and your son might have the right
idea, Jan. Coated with a semi-gloss clear finish it would be pretty good,
yes?
Check out this picture file and see if this will do. If so, and you make
some, can I have a copy for mine?

My son has a business making decals for models. He uses an Alps thermal
transfer printer and special clear decal printer paper.
The problem is these are VERY fragile-both in putting them on and then once
they are on-they would have to be coated with something (after all, the
plastic models are not handled roughly).
I will check with him if he is willing to do one for you (he will need a
scanned in image).
As an alternative, find a local silk screener and see how much they would
charge. I would guess $50-100 to do one. Once they have set up yours, they
could do many others much cheaper.
