I reveneered mine with piece of veneer that is book
matched (i.e. it is already jointed and taped together
from the wood shop). I got mine from a guy here in
Atlanta who buys exotic wood leftovers from furniture
makers. In order to get a chunk long enough for the
dash, it was wide too. There is enough for 2 or 3
more dahses. It cost me about $35. I would part with
the remainder for free BUT I took all the good Burl
out of sheet. The remainder has some burly spots but
not what I would want if I were to go through all te
trouble again. There is a place in the NY? called
Constantines that has burl veneer. After all is said
and done, it took me about 40 manhours, $100, and 2
months elapsed time to complete it. It was neat to do
it but if I value my time, it cost me WAY more than
$300. It did justify buying some extra clamps and I
got to use the router I got a few years back. And
isn't what that is all about - collecting tools and
cool cars?
