The 13 inch wheel used on the Alpine was used on the Super Minx starting in
late 1961 (1962 models) and on the regular Minx starting in late 1963 (for
1964 models). Again, Hillmans wheels were painted "Foam White"-the color
usually used on Husky's for around the windows and on roof sections of Super
Minxes.
However, note that Singer wheels were painted differently then Hillman
wheels-the wheels matched the side flash. So it is possible that Alpine
wheels were also painted differently.

Yes, this is true and I think it will need some looking into. I've ofter
wondered what color was used, but never had a real desire to figure it out
until Jan and I started formulating body colors. Were the same steel wheels
used on other Rootes Vehicles? I'm assuming that they were, which kinda blows
my theory out of the water. I will agree that it is an egg shell white.... but
which Rootes color is it exactly? Hummm......

While you are correct regarding the Alpine, Rootes had a number of variations
of white available. It appears that Hillmans used "Foam White" or later
"Foam
Gray" (same color) on the wheels. This was a slightly gray toned white
(definitely NOT yellow). I think Alpines used this (but I am not sure).
However, Singers had their wheels painted to match the contrasting body
flash.

I'm going out on a limb on this, but I think this is one that I need to
look into a bit more. My instinct, based on what I've seen on cars I've
dismantled, tells me that the early cars used Moonstone (code 19) on the
steel wheels starting with the later Series II's somewhere just before
B9107291. Cars earlier than that had steel wheel that were painted the
same color as the body of the car. Moonstone was the only white
available on the Alpine until late Series IV when they introduced Artic
white (code 92).
Now, it makes since to me that they would have used the colors that were
available to them at the time. Why would they create a special white
just for the steel wheels? Just use what's available...right? So with
that in mind, I would think that early car would have (code 19)
Moonstone wheels and cars starting with the later Series IV's went to
(code 92) Artic white. I won't be able to confirm this until I can get
my hands on some good wheels with original paint on them. I'll get Jan
to test the paint and see if it matches the colors we've already had
mixed. We have a Series V in original unrestored condition right now, so
we can test the color of those wheels, but the early stuff will have to
wait until I can find a sample.
my 2 cents,
Ian
