I got all excited about this a year or so back, but from what I could find,
the twin cam head is extremely rare. So rare that it is not worth
considering. There was only a hundred or so made in the first place, and they
have been sought after ever since. Apparently they were pretty good though,
and I think they pretty much just bolted on to the standard block (though I
think the isuzu version was metricised). They were standard with a pair of
Mi-So sidedraughts, and had an output of 120hp DIN at 6400rpm. The car was
called the Isuzu Bellet 1600 GTR coupe, and was produced from 63. The
internals of the block must have been a bit different to standard though, as
the bore x stroke is 82 x 75.

There was also the Isuzu 177 coupe which used the same motor from 1968
onwards.

There is also a single overhead cam motor in the bellet 1800 sports also
made from 1963. It was rated at 1818cc (84 x 82) and 115hp DIN. Being 1963
i'd assume it was 3 bearing, but that is a guess. It may have actually been
a totally different engine.

There are plently of standard isuzu bellet 1600s here in NZ, with the
pushrod head. The engine certainly looks quite similar to our old rootes
lumps, but the head is totally different. They may be a better one to tune
though.

One thing is that isuzu used almost the same identicle engine mount
placement as the years went by, so the later twin cam engines of which there
are plenty, fit without too much trouble.

Greg
