Joe:
While I can't deny the "Gee whiz" factor of having a
supercharger, you can easily get your TR6 to 150 fully streetable,
"daily driver" horsepower for less than half of what you are talking
about here.
A full engine overhaul will run about $2,000 if you do the
teardown and reassembly. While you are doing the overhaul, you deck the
block, shave the head and cam the engine. Put in some stainless valves
and add a header and good muffler, and voila! 150 HP. The Zeniths will
get you to this number, but from there you can eke out a bit more with
Webers or triple Zeniths AND add some bling, if that is what you want.
It is true that for engine flexibility you cannot beat
supercharging, but the cost being discussed is scaring me silly. I am an
old man and my heart can't take the strain - so let's ease up on the
$8,000 engine build ups, shall we? =:-)
Heck, my credit card burst into flames just thinking about this.

OK, question about the SC kit:
So suppose you spend the $3500 for the SC kit, plus the $750 for the
damper,
how much would be a good ballpark figure to estimate for 'optimizing'
the
rest of the engine? Would another $4000 do the trick (that would be for
crank/rods/pistons/etc)? Or would that figure be too low?
