Hi Marty, just pry the steering column out of the way when you are ready to
pull out the cannister. It will flex enough to allow the canister to come
out the top, even with hand pressure. That's how I used to remove my
canister for oil changes prior to the spin on conversion. No need to remove
any bolts or worse, cut the body work like some folks used to do (even
dealers apparently!).
