were metric, by the way".
Some work had obviously been done on mine, as the shear
bolts were installed but not sheared. It didn't occur to me that might
mean the lock had been replaced. I assumed that the steering column had
been removed for servicing of some sort, thus the new bolts.
Yes, the bolts on mine were definitely metric. No, I am not
at all sure that the lock was original. My car is a 74-1/2 by the way.
Perhaps the year makes a difference, as Triumph was making a very half
hearted attempt to go metric (e.g. metric brake calipers on later cars).

Are you sure? My 71 TR6 ignition lock had a 5/16x3/4"" coarse thread
shear bolt set holding it in place. The later TR6's used a different
ignition switch, though the lock portion was the same. The REPLACEMENT
lock I got from TRF had an 8mm/1.25 pitchx30mm shear bolt set included.
(I just did this stuff last week)
