Bill:
A little thought will give you the answer....
The needle needs to come up to enrich, down to lean. Think of
the needle as screw, and you are turning a nut to pull the screw up or
push it down. In fact, this is exactly what you are doing;
So turn the nut (adjustment) clockwise to pull the screw
(needle) up - this will enrich the mixture.
Turn the nut (adjustment) counterclockwise to push the screw
(needle) down - this will lean the mixture.
My 74-1/2 carbs have roughly 3 turns from full rich to full
lean. That means if the needle is centered (shank is flush with the
slide) that I have 1-1/2 turns in either direction. 1/8th of a turn will
make a noticeable difference in plug color if you close to optimum, but
more is needed if you are at one extreme or the other.
I recommend that you start by turning the appropriate adjuster
1/4 turn counter clockwise to lean the mix and drive it for a few miles,
then reread the plugs. When it gets close (you will see a very
pronounced shift in the plug color), use 1/8 turn increments to get it
to a gray/tan color.

Subject: Stromberg adjust
I know this has been on the list before ... but ... which way
do I turn my fancy adjustment tool to lean the carburetor ... and
how many turns???
Rosey (TR6) is sputtering and plugs 1,2,3 are oily Black ... I
checked the diaphragm and it is not torn. Any thing else besides
just being set too rich??
Senior Minds would love to know
Thanks for your help
