Andy:
There is no doubt the 5 speed conversion is a nice upgrade. The
one thing that
it lacks is resale value. You will probably not get much, if anything,
for the cost
of the conversion when you sell the car.
A J-type overdrive conversion will add about $1,000 to the
resale value, assuming it
is the correct OD and is installed per the factory setup.
If the goal is to simply get good freeway cruising, the 5 speed
is the way to
go as it is modern, and it will eliminate the weakness associated with
the factory type
clutch.
